Stuck in a Photography Rut? Don't Make this 1 Extremely Common Mistake.

Hey Reader,

Hi again! It's me, that one photographer who strategizes about all things corporate event photography.

Last time, we talked about becoming old and irrelevant through outdated photography assets. Missed it? No worries. You can catch up HERE.

This week, we're tackling a related topic. The predecessor to becoming old and irrelevant, if you will...

Don't make this ONE super common mistake: (Don't rely on a rusty bike)

Ahh, the world of events. Whether you're a corporate planner, a DMC, a client, or a vendor serving the event industry, there's one thing I know that we ALL have in common:

We're really, freaking busy.

It's so easy to get sucked into the comfort of routine; when you have systems in place, it's fastest and easiest to simply plug and chug.

A new day, a new event. The same formula, the same vendors, the same... results?

Confession time! I have a rusty old bike. The chain is faulty, the saddle is ripped, and it makes a weird noise going downhill, but it gets me from point A to point B. It does the job. Does it do the job better than other bikes? Absolutely not. But for 4 years, I've relied on this dusty old bicycle to do an OK job with OK results.

Don't leave the success of your business in the hands of a rusty bike.

You know what I mean-- and you probably even know where you're "rusted out." But who has the time and energy to pause, evaluate, and determine where you could be operating more optimally?

I'll tell you who -- the organizations at the top.

If you're looking to grow your business, win new clients at a higher level, and get greater financial and time returns from less work, it's time to identify ways you can be more strategic.

Don't get stuck in a rut.
Is your photography helping you get to that next level?

Too many clients I've worked with have reported that they had never partnered with a photographer who asked questions other than "when and where do I show up?"

If your photographer isn't working with you to identify and develop strategies around your photo deliverables, consider it money left on the table.

Google Drive folders full of thousands of images is old school. New school is creating shareable, eye-catching content that guests, partners, and prospective clients are excited to repost.

Be honest: is your image content surviving or thriving?

I'll bet you anything that I can identify at least 3 ways you're leaving money on the table.

The event world is filled with opportunities that are yours for the taking, if you're willing to replace that rusty bike.

I'd like to challenge you to take 15 minutes to disrupt your routine.

Don't wait until it's an 🚨Emergency🚨
Let's plan ahead.

When I was 16, I came home from school one day and there was a prom dress hanging in my closet. I was super confused as I had never mentioned wanting to go to prom, hadn't been asked yet, and it was a full 2 years away. Naturally, I asked my mom why she was being so.... proactive. Her response:

"Daria, you never wait until you need a dress to get a dress. That's how you get stuck with ugly dresses.

Also, this was on sale. Now go away, I'm making dinner."

Ok, Mom. Fair point.

For the record: a full 2.5 years later, I did go to prom with a nice boy named Adam, and I did indeed wear the dress. Mission accomplished!

Why the prom dress story, you ask? Dresses are like photographers. You don't think about them until you need one. And when you need one... you needed them yesterday.
